Microsoft finally produces a racing sim for the Xbox that could possibly wipe out any memory of the Gran Turismo series on the PS2… Forza Motorsport brings forth the thrills and spills of realistic driving, almost real graphics and plenty of very real car models and boy does it succeed in doing so. Although the Xbox contains a long list of driving sims, most of which are highly entertaining and fun, Microsoft decided it's time to take out the big guns and give GT something to compete with. Not only does it complete this task, but Forza sets new standards above any that has been witnessed before probably sending the GT team running crazily around their office to remove this young threat. Graphically outstanding. As many would expect. Forza Motorsport is a real gem to look at. Each bit of detail is so fine that it makes you wonder if there really is a need for the Xbox 360. From the skid marks on the track to the looming trees, which overhang and provide shelter to the drivers, each detail is as beautiful as the next, leaving me wondering just how much time the crew actually spent making such minor objects so incredibly worthwhile to look at. Texturing is spot on throughout the entire game leaving unique tiles across the racecourse so no part of the road or the stadium looks the same. Even the shadows cast from objects as you race around are perfectly projected onto whatever might pass beneath them. Likewise are the near perfect angles from these shadows hiding the also highly detailed sun, which may be shining, brightly in sky depending on the track. (Whoa all the colours of the rainbow… right over this cliff…) Now for the real juice in the orange the cars. Each car is brilliantly portrayed and looks exactly like it's real life counterpart. Each fully customisable car contains its maker's emblem and other real life qualities. Yet really making the car your own by applying the paint, designs or logos that you want are the real deal and this is a small addition which has a large affect on the life-span and creativity of the game. One can apply different designs or patterns almost anywhere they want on their favourite cars and turn their car into a majestic beauty, a ‘Days Of Thunder' Look alike, or just a plain old junk-heap stock car. There is nothing more exciting than seeing your very own pimp my ride car flying around the bundle of famous circuits from around the world. With over 5 racing types, all of which have plenty of different tournaments and sub-race types, players could start a racing history in career mode or just tear up the tracks in a free run or time trial. Like all other racing sims, gamers may find Forza Motorsport difficult to handle at first even though it has the same old simple control system present in all other racers, it's realistic engine may prove a challenge for even the most hardened gamer. With the help of the difficulty options to, for example, stop your car from spinning out of control or the give you a colour coded guideline along the track that informs you when to brake or accelerate, even the youngest of gamers should be able to pick this game up. One of the best additions to Forza Motorsport is the new drivator an AI model of yourself who you have the choice to train and then drive certain courses for you, a useful addition when you couldn't bother doing a track that you know is difficult and have done many times before, and so players can just sit back and watch as their fully licensed car model from the range of 50 car manufactures, races for you around the course handling each turn like you would. Save your favourite race forever in your replay theatre so you can watch it over and over again with plenty of detail from each corner to each straight such as the amount of G's the driver is taking or how much friction are the tires taking. Those who can't bear the roaring of an American muscle car (…or just about any muscle car…) are in luck as Forza Motorsport comes complete with a rippling soundtrack sure to get you dancing, or the use of custom soundtracks to accompany the growling of the engine or the screeching of monstrous tires burning rubber. Like all racing games Forza Motorsport contains offline split screen multiplayer and expands to online multiplayer where one can race, chat, car swap or even trade cars. (No organ trading unfortunately… I was ‘this' close to getting a new liver.) Already Forza Motorsport has a bustling online community with plenty of gamers itching to show off their skills or obtain new vehicles. Forza Motorsport is one of those rare jewels that come along once every four or five years and just can't be ignored. Every Xbox owner should have this title and flaunt it off to as many people as they possibly can! No doubts that it will go far…
