Monsters Ate My Condo is an addicting game by Pik Pok and Adult Swim Games for iOS and Android. I played the iOS version and couldn't put it down. It's a puzzle and strategy game, filling the same type of role as Tetris. Don't get the wrong idea though; it's very different!

Graphics and Sound

The graphics are colorful and a little crazy. The music is excellent, constantly driving forward and anything but mellow. The sounds effects are fun as well. I especially like the voices although there's very little. When monsters switch places, they'll say something. It's hard to notice at first but very amusing.

Gameplay

There's a tower in the middle of the screen with a monster on each side. The tower is a stack of differently colored condos. There are four colors of condos and monsters - red, green, blue, and yellow. You can drag a condo out of the tower to feed it to a monster. Each monster has a happiness meter. It goes down over time slowly and drops by a significant amount if you feed the monster the wrong color. As you might guess, feeding a monster a condo of its matching color increases its happiness.

There's more to it than just feeding. Allowing three condos of the same color to exist in a row will make a combo, transforming the three condos into a bronze condo. Three bronze condos change into a silver, three silver into a gold, and three gold into a diamond. Performing a combo will also make that color monster go away. For example, if you have the red and yellow monsters out and perform a red combo, the red monster will leave. If you had made a blue combo instead, the monsters wouldn't have changed. The monsters each have a power that can be activated by feeding it a bronze, silver, gold, or diamond condo. The higher quality the special condo is, the longer the power lasts. The red monster stops time while the blue monster straightens the tower. These two are my favorites!

There are two condos that are hazardous - bombs and cinderblocks. Bombs count down and explode when they reach zero, disrupting the tower. Cinderblocks simply take up space. Both of these can be removed by performing a combo around them. If you can manage to a make a combo out of three them, they'll turn into a cat condo. This is an odd condo that, when part of another combo, will skip a "level" of combos. If you have two red condos, then a cat, and then a red, you'll receive a silver instead of a bronze. You really need to look out for bombs, because if the tower gets too unstable, it'll fall; that's game over!

Conclusion

I've been really addicted to Monsters Ate My Condo. It has an endless mode and a time trial mode, although I usually stick with endless mode. Honestly, I should switch to time trial, because at this point, my endless matches last far too long. The game features a ton of strategy for what seems like a simple game. As I got better, I found that my strategy changed dramatically. It's a ton of fun. Monsters Ate My Condo is $0.99 on the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store.
